Hardware startups are on the rise. Key technology developments like rapid prototyping (3D printing) and cheap and flexible computing platforms (Raspberry Pi, Arduino) are lowering the barrier to start hardware projects. The problems arise when you want to finish a hardware project: to have a sellable product. Of course the product has to be cheap, has to look cool and must work perfectly - with some brand-new, cutting edge technology inside.
